This October, Teddy & The Bully Bar and DC’s own Chef Demetrio Zavala competed in The Food Network’s new “Chopped” tournament. In each round of the popular reality show, four chefs competed to earn a spot in the finale. The competition was narrowed down to one single champion – our very own Executive Chef Demetrio Zavala – who was awarded the opportunity to cook against Bobby Flay in an upcoming finale episode.
The Food Network recently did a one-on-one interview with Chef Demetrio, read it here. When asked how he plans to beat the legendary Bobby Flay, who is known for his Mexican cooking, Chef Demetrio says: “I might rock his world.”
Chef Demetrio Zavala on how he won two rounds of “Chopped”:
“Think about all the chefs in this world. Some chefs separate themselves by being different and unique. You have to be unique and have your own niche. If I did a bread pudding like everybody else would do, they would say, ‘OK, it’s just a bread pudding.’ But I did something that nobody else would have probably done, and that’s the creative element of being a chef.”
